John Gerzema: The post-crisis consumer

Well it’s no secret the economy has not been good the past few years, I think I already knew a lot of what John talked about but had never actually heard it presented as a whole by someone. John mentioned people are starting to buy things with money they have, instead of use credit cards. On his bar graph I noticed surfing the web was up, I am assuming that is because more people stay at home and use their computer for entertainment and shopping instead of wasting money on gas running around town. People are also getting rid of cable television in exchange for cheaper or free sites and options like Hulu and Netflix. John mentioned the rise of using locally owned businesses and that made me think of Shop Tulsa, an initiative created to teach Tulsans the positive impact of spending money within the city instead of giving it to a corporate company.
